About the Village Show:

The Saugatuck-Douglas District Library’s Village Show was first conceived as a way to connect with our Library community during the stay-at-home summer of 2020.  The format is based on a traditional British Village Show (the closest US equivalent is probably the craft/produce tents at a state or county fair). The four categories (Flowers, Produce, Arts and Crafts and Baking) are typical for an end of summer show, and our deadline was Labor Day.   However, instead of bringing exhibits to a building for display, we asked community members just to send in photographs of their entries. We also asked exhibitors for a brief comment or story about their entry, and a photograph of themselves.  There was no judging, but five prizes were awarded by random drawing. Book-related exhibits, labeled Library Special in the Show, earned two entries in the drawing.

Ninety community members of all ages participated in this year’s show, with a total of 137 exhibits.  That’s almost 25% more than last year!

The submissions were compiled into video slide shows that you can access using these links.  Each slide plays for 10 seconds, giving a total run time of around 5 minutes per video, but you can pause them if you need more time to read the comments.
