The Village Show is back!

The Saugatuck-Douglas District Library's Virtual Village Show is coming back!  In case you missed this virtual event the first time around, the concept is based on a traditional British Village Show, a community event which would usually be held in a Village Hall at the end of summer. Because our 2020 show was entirely photo-based, we were able to accept submissions over a longer period of time. Contributors could submit their baked goods but also eat them, not to mention leave their squash to ripen on the vine, keep their flowers to attract butterflies to their yards, and give their arts and crafts to friends and family members.

In 2020, sixty-eight members of our community contributed their photos in the categories of Flowers, Produce, Arts and Crafts and Baking, with a total of just over one hundred entries for the whole show. Five names were drawn at random and each won a $20 gift certificate to a local business.  This summer, we are hoping to see the return of some of our past contributors, and plenty of new participants.  Joint entries (e.g. grandparent and grandchild, siblings, spouses etc.) are very welcome.  If you haven't already seen them, we encourage you to view last year's slide shows for inspiration.  Each slide show has been converted to a YouTube video, which you can view by clicking on the links below. They take about five minutes to view, but if you need more time to read the comments you can pause at any time.  In brief, it's a community Show-and-Tell!

The deadline for this year's entries is once again Labor Day, but we encourage you to send your photos earlier as we'd love to use some in sneak previews through July and August.  Each entry consists of a photo of your work (please let us know which Category and Class you are entering), plus a photo of the contributor's smiling face (square format works best), and a brief comment or story about the entry.  We will turn these into slides for the show.  Entries or questions about the show should be sent to hmason@sdlibrary.org.
