Approaching Landscape Through Shape and Value with Anne Corlett

Saugatuck Douglas Art Club and the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library are excited to announce a free and open-to-the-public class on landscape painting, taught by local artist, Anne Corlett.

In this class we will learn how to paint a landscape from a photograph. We will simplify and ground our landscapes with shape and value, beginning with pencil drawings and advancing to color as the class continues. Artist Statement
As an artist, I am continually striving to dig deep into myself towards essential truth. I can approach this point through painting our local landscapes. The turn of a wave, the personality of a tree, the sweep of our lakeshore, all imbue me with immense gratitude. As I paint a cloud that dances between clapping cottonwood leaves, my heart opens up and I feel unfettered joy. I have spent every summer of my life on Saugatuck beaches. My love for them is visceral and painting them is the most effective way to communicate their vital importance to me, and to the world.

This free class is offered through a collaboration between the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library and the Saugatuck Douglas Art Club. Donations welcome.
